Close up of Bombus pratorum tongue

Took this close up of the pratorum queen's tongue, it shows just how feathery/hairy the tip is, good for soaking up nectar.

Bombus pratorum queen

Found this queen in the garden. She was just lying there, not dead, but hardly moving. I tried taking her into the warmth and offered her sugar and water, then honey and water, but she wasn't interested. She died a few hours later. There wasn't a mark on her, so I think she must have been poisoned by isecticide, although neither I nor my neighbours use any. Very sad.
